i'm not really sure why i created a blog. who knows if i'll even remember i have a blog in a week. i guess the plan is to keep track of my poker goals, accomplishments (or lack thereof), and whatever else i feel like bitching about.
i started playing poker freshman year of college with $5 tournaments at a friends house. we'd all gather around the coffee table and donk it up. none of us knew what we were doing, but it was a good time. i think i probably played for 3 or 4 weeks straight without winning a single dollar. i bought super system and read the NL section in a day or two. (i was obviously the best poker player in the world after reading it, just like everyone else is after reading it) shortly thereafter, i won two tournaments in one night, winning something like $50. i thought i was the man! from that point on i was hooked. i bought and read a few other poker books. we eventually made the switch to cash games, again donking it up with .25/.50 blinds, most of the time buying in for something stupid like $10 or $20. it was easy money though, the people we played with were god awful. we played a lot, like 5 nights a week. i'll never forget waking up one afternoon to the doorbell ringing and the normal poker group standing on my front porch with a keg and a deck of cards. it was pretty nice.
eventually that died down because a couple of the guys discovered online poker. my buddy was killing party poker's $50nl tables, so i figured i'd give it a shot. worst mistake ever. i ran crazy hot when i first deposited, running $50 up to like $350ish playing the $25nl tables. i thought i was god. then i went busto. for the next few years i dabbled in online poker (probably playing a total of 50k hands), never really practicing bankroll management and basically playing like a retard. i was a winning player, but playing with like 5-10 buyins at each level and cashing out when i shouldnt have.
in july of 2006 i won a $5 rebuy touranment on stars w/ 811 people for $3,676. i made more money in the 6 or 7 hours of that tournament then i'd ever made in my entire poker "career." i decided from that point on that i was never going busto again and i'd start practicing good bankroll management. so i withdrew $676 to buy dumb shit that i dont need (hobby of mine) and started playing $100nl with $3k. i never really took it seriously, probably only playing 40k hands from july till december. i beat the game, but it just wasnt fun. i got bored w/ online poker and started playing live poker out at argosy in lawrenceburg. they have a $1/$3nl ($300max) game that is extremely easy. seriously, i think a deaf and blind dog could beat that game. i played out there pretty often, crushing the game for a lot of dollar bills. eventually i got sick of sitting around with degenerate old men while having the annoying sounds of slot machines in the background, and shipped my live poker roll online to start playing online again. a few days later i won a $69 tournament with 154 people, good for $2863. moved up to 1/2nl and ran well. below is screenshot since moving up.
this month is the first month that i've really taken the game seriously, trying to put in as many hands as possible and play as well as i can at the same time. i've played a little more than 25k hands this month (my most in a month ever) and i think i'm beating the game pretty good. hopefully its not just positive variance. below is a graph of my play since moving up to 1/2nl.
ok well i guess that's it for now. time to hit the tables.
